Hailing from Blue Ridge, Georgia, Derek Greene’s musical path began in the middle school band room, where he first discovered the power of sound to move and inspire. That early connection to music grew into a lifelong pursuit of composition — driven by a desire to share with others the same emotion and meaning that music gave him.

As the founder of Viola Ranch Music Co., Derek set out to create works that speak to students and audiences rather than to judges or score sheets. His philosophy is rooted in authenticity and connection, believing that the most impactful music is written from the heart, not for competition.

Derek’s compositions are crafted to evoke genuine emotion and engagement, reflecting a creative drive that he describes as “a passion and a thirst that will never truly be quenched.” Over time, his perspective has shifted from the pursuit of awards to the pursuit of artistry — a change inspired by his belief that music education should nurture creativity rather than pressure perfection.
