When I began to compose this piece, I began in the most unconviential way I could have imagined, I asked my girlfriend what I should write, She stated she wanted a march, so I pressed on.
“What kind of march?”
“I dont know, call it enchanted.”
So now facing before was the task to create a march that would enchant you, which to me, is a difficult one. I dont like marches, my music is rarely enchanting, and I’m working on inspiration I dont yet have. So I put the pen to paper and created a piece I am almost satisfied with.
With a repeated brass ostinato introducing the first strain, and an unconviential woodwing challenging dogfight, the piece attempts to make you imagine a band of faries marching to a beat, or a war between vines raging through a forest.
This piece is not easy, but it will not be a dragon to tame. The most challenging moment of this piece, is trying not to miss the key signature.
